A fabulous place to stop for a drink and a tasty snack. We've popped in here before when there have been onigiri pop ups but decided to give it a try on a summer afternoon. They have a nice little patio to sit on outside. The katsu Sandi was perfection and the drinks were great. The place had a friendly and welcoming vibe and I'm looking forward to coming back to sample more bites this next year, there were so many interesting tidbits on the menu

Our original dinner place wasn't taking huge parties without reservations, so my friends and I pivoted to this restaurant which was nearby that seemed small on the outside but thankfully had an extension outdoor seating in the back! It's located next to Midnight Cookie Co. and Kamonegi on N 39th St in Fremont. There is only street parking around the area that could be difficult during rush dinner hours, weekends, and during any events held in Fremont. We didn't realize that this restaurant was mainly a sake bar with only bar food. Luckily, their bar food menu was quite vast. It was a cold night and sitting outside was quite chilly. I saw that they had oden on their menu, and my eyes kept pivoting back to that option as it was soupy with a good amount of proteins. It was soooo nice. Really warmed my body and soul as I had this hot bowl of oden. Can never go wrong with oden as they're usually pretty standard worldwide. Loved how there was some mustard added on the bowl to mix in with my dashi soup. My boyfriend got their Katsu Sando. Small finger bites cut into threes. I wanted a try, so I stole a bite from one of his three finger bites. It was very flavorful and also quite crunchy! The bread and katsu were both crunchy which was what I had hoped. Yum! My friends and I also shared a Mapo Pork Nachos which had a nice unique flavor. It looked like light colored chili cheese nachos but once I took a bit, it was a nice Asian twist to the flavor of it. We all obviously had to try a sake as well. I knew Junmai was a good type of sake, so we asked our server for a Junmai recommendation. I can't seem to remember what his recommendation was, but the sake went down very smoothly. Overall, this was a cozy nice spot to gather with friends to drink and have snacks with. It was kind of a bummer that we missed happy hour time and that there weren't really full sized meals but now we know the next time we decide to go.

Fun and cozy Japanese bar right next to sister restaurant, Kamonegi. Happy hour is extremely worth it for sake and their Japanese inspired foods are the perfect size for sharing and whetting your appetite. Tables are slightly small but the timing of food and drinks will make you feel like it's never cramped. Had a great time with great service.

Very friendly staff, and daily happy hour from 3-6pm! We stopped by for pre-dinner drinks on a Saturday around 5:30pm. Ended up sampling the sake flight (HH dealer's choice), a HH sake bottle, and the takowasa (raw octopus with wasabi). Cozy spot with tasty smells emanating from the various Japanese light bites. We inquired what the roasty toasty smells were (although did not order), and the waiter said it was probably the sausages and/or hot dog. We were planning to go to the soba noodle place next door but spent too long at Hannyatou (told it was a 1.5 hr wait!). Recommended to put your name down if you're planning to go Kamonegi after.

We loved Hannyatou! The staff were so kind and welcoming! You could tell they enjoy sake and loved talking about it. I tried the sake flight and it was delicious and fun. The food is great too! We enjoyed the bar snacks. It is cozy and perfect for date night. We'll definitely be coming back!

Delicious food, fun drinks, and the friendliest service. We always get the smoked clam dip. The patio has such a nice atmosphere.

Came here on a Friday for the Happy Hour and had a great time. The food and drinks were excellent. Happy hour is from 4-6pm so we arrived right at 4pm so we could get a table. The place is pretty small, there's bar seating and probably 4-5 tables. They also have an outdoor patio too. It was raining when we went so it wasn't busy. We were the first party there and 2 more parties came in when we were seated. For drinks, I tried the sparkling plum cocktail and the Tokyo Hai. Both were good but I loved the Tokyo Hai, it was very refreshing, fruity and not overly sweet. All the food was excellent and I would order everything again. We got the oden, smoked clam dip, the Osaka dog and the katsu sando. Everything was great so I can't really list a favorite. The oden was nice and hot, perfect for a cold rainy day. I could really taste the clams in the dip and they gave us refills of the chips. The Osaka dog and Katsu sandwich was excellent! They have a nice combination of Japanese fusion food. Would definitely come back to try more things! I really want to try the mapo pork nachos

Love this place, it's really a sake joint with great happy hour and some authentic Japanese drinking food (think appetizers, snacks, finger food). They host sake events and the owner circulates different companies and brands of sake from Japan. Fantastic selection, lots of parking available and a great place to hang out and try a flight of sake with friends. I love how unpretentious Hannyatou is, great little Japanese bar in the heart of the city. If you've put your name on the waitlist for dinner next door (another popular Japanese restaurant), this is a great place to drink sake and wait it out. Opt for the back patio area which I found pretty and intimate. I enjoyed this place and I will be back for Happy Hour!
